Head Hunters

Der Kriegspielers DK 20 Chasseurs à pied command group

The DK 20 command group for my Chasseurs à pied (literally "Hunters on foot", in English) is ready for inspection.

I've had an ambition to paint a battalion of French Imperial guardsmen for as long as I can remember, so I've been beavering away during the weekday evenings to get them done.

The flag is my attempt to produce the 1812 pattern infantry flag. It's a little impressionistic as I couldn't quite squeeze everything on to it! I can't help thinking that the Imperial symbols down the sides look just bit too much like Chinese characters, but they ought to be OK when viewed from a distance.

I have a special commander for these chaps! All will be revealed in the next post....

Cheers

  2. That DK flag bearer is a nice looking figure and certainly better than the one I have. The painting of the flag is amazing as always and no they don't look like Chinese characters!

    1. He's a handsome casting, even is he is just the Hinton Hunt French line infantry flag bearer with a different head. Did you spot that I'd done a paint conversion on his rear pockets?

  3. They are magnificent. I am in awe of the flag. Could you please drop the notes of self doubt, as they make me think of hanging up my brushes.....

    1. Archduke, your wee men are some of the most beautifully painted figures I've ever seen, so don't be daft!

    1. Thanks, Tony. I had to put a bit of extra effort into them. I've waited for my guardsmen for a very long time!

  5. Stunning! I copied the photo and scaled it to life size - you must have a powerful magnifying lens and the steadiest of hands to paint that flag!
But who is the mystery commander - a red-headed firebrand by any chance?

    1. Cheers Rob. No magnifying glasses were involved, just shortsightedness! I just take my specs off to do the detailed work.

All I can reveal at the moment is that it is nay to Ney!

  6. Cheers James.

If you or anyone else has spotted the mistake you've been very generous in keeping quiet about it!

  7. If its a competition of tarts to command such a beautiful unit then you coukd do worse than Junot. Napoleon's commanders were not chosen for breeding, connections or taste as you have shown us with Marbot and Murat, so I expect this arriving commander to be equally showy. To think that they were beaten by a lot of toffs in raincoats.

  8. I reckon it's Cambronne. Even if he was less earthy than fans of the prosaic would have us believe.
