Filling a GàP

To my shame and dismay I still haven't finished my write up of Blasthof. Part of the reason for this is illustrated below.

The figures are all really splendid vintage Hinton Hunts, being FN 29 Grenadiers of the Old Guard 1804-15, Grenadier marching x 12. As an incentive to get the battalion finished I've decided to save all the fancy command figures for the second half. This was an idea suggested by Rob G and it's working just fine so far.

The next post really is going to be Blasthof, I promise.

Best regards

WM

Edit: I meant to add, those Lamming test figures ought to be appearing over the next few weeks too,

  1. With his lot of beauties in the bag you'll be able to re-stage Napoleon's march on Paris with the right figures.
Coming on really nicely but some of those muskets will clearly never fire - no doubt why they'll rely on the bayonet.

    1. The muskets had to be a little bent while I painted them, Rob. I plan to straighten them when everything has dried out properly, which will be in about a week.

I've been dying to paint these for about two years. They're gorgeous castings.

  4. Nevertheless, lovely brushwork so far. Can't wait to see the finished unit. I'm playing my own refight of Blasthof later today incidentally.

    1. Thank you Stokes.

My sincere apologies about the delay, Stokes. My hobby time is so restricted at the moment that painting rather than blogging is all I seem able to manage at the moment. I'm determined to get Blasthof finished soon, however.

  5. They look great Matthew, reminds me that I have a unit of these that have sat in the lead pile since 2009!

    1. That is a long time to wait for the guard, Ian. I've set myself an informal 20% ratio for French guardsmen, which means I get to do one guard battalion with each phase.

    1. Thank you Paul, I think so too. Some of Marcus's finest, I reckon, and quite simple really, although those folded arms are surprisingly fiddly to paint.

  8. Coming along a treat and the finished battalion will clearly be something a bit special, then again I say that about every unit you paint!

    1. Cheers, 'Lee. I have high hopes for them, especially as the Brits ae starting to show up on the other side. I need something that'll keep marching despite being shot to pieces.

  9. Magnificent, of course. Personally I think it's a work of great insight to give a nod to Napoleon's little known device to have the guard fire on the Prussians while apparently attacking the Allies........

    1. They really are the loveliest of castings, Archduke - unlike the charging version of this figure, which is a bit of a mess in comparison.

  10. I certainly would not grumble if I had a unit of these chaps in my collection.

    1. The grumbling sound comes from the rest of the army, Mark. Not popular, this lot.
