Irlande en Ligne

Just a quick post to show where I am with the Irish Legion.

This is not as far as I'd wished, but the centre company chasseurs are all done, plus a carabiner and a voltigeur. Although when I started these I was dimly aware that painting Der Kriegspielers is generally a bit harder than painting Hinton Hunts (its been a few years since I painted any), I definitely underestimated how much harder. The detail, where it exists at all, is absolutely miniscule.

Never mind. Only ten more to go.

Happy New Year everyone.

  1. These are really turning into a first class battalion WM. I love that they all have tasseled gaiters, and the way you paint them! The epaulets as well as the cuffs are beautifully done and the colour selection superb. Really looking forward to seeing the next ten!

    1. It's all about the tassels, David! My phone's tiny little robot brain had some difficulty in understanding the colours, by the looks of it, but the photo gives a general idea. The fringes on the epaulettes are actually bright green rather than streaked with yellow is as seems to be shown here. Hopefully all this will come right in their official photo shoot.

    1. Thank you, Donnie. Der Kriegspielers are fairly horrible knockoffs, truth be told, but they were knocked-off from the best.

  3. Looking lovely and you’ve broken the back now with only ten more of the same so no ‘how to paint them’ conundrum awaits. Organise a game for their debut, that should provide enough incentive to get you to the finish line… well, it works for me. :o)

    1. That is a very good idea. I'll have a squint at a few of Charles Grant's "Table-Top Teasers" to see if I can find something suitable.

  4. Happy New Year. You seem to have cracked finding non-existent detail in my opinion.

    1. You've handled a few DKs then, I take it! You're not wrong, but in this case there was generally something to work with, even if it was a bit ghostly.

  5. These are lovely Matthew…
You wouldn’t know that they have come from poor castings.
I am looking forward to seeing the finished unit…

    All the best. Aly

    1. Cheers Aly. I had a few doubts about the wisdom of embarking on this battalion, but I've started warming to them a bit.

    1. Thank you James. I've been finding it very hard to find time to work on these, but I'm finally making a ittle progress.
